When I was a boy, I naively thought that this thing called happiness would be something I would wake up to find every day once I could smoke, drink and fornicate.

About This Quote

In this quote, the author is expressing his hopes and dreams. When he was a young man, he dreamed of freedom from the guilt of his sins. He wanted to be able to drink, smoke and fornicate all he wanted without having to feel bad about it. Sadly, that did not happen.

As a young man who was often drunk and had a wandering eye, he found that there was a price to pay for all of his sinful pleasures. He would wake up every morning feeling guilty and ashamed of his actions. He realized that this thing called happiness was not something that could ever be found in the way he had been so foolishly thinking.

Happiness came from an inside job where self-examination and honesty took place daily.
